There’s no doubt that feeling fit brings great satisfaction. Fitness  gives confidence which renders a psychological advantage. You have the edge because your body tells you it’s in optimal shape and that gives you a positive mind-frame. The Romans believed that a healthy mind thrives in a healthy body, and they weren't the only ones. Every ancient civilization had a particular concept of what the optimal human appearance looks like. Not every model was skinny. Sometimes it’s better to lose. But it’s not easier. Society is a rough critic and sometimes we’re the roughest of them all. No matter what your personal reason for losing weight is, there are some hints that are universal. First of all, attempting to lose weight means changing eating habits, exercising regularly and maintaining a schedule that might be stricter than your current one. It’s a big deal and as with all big deals, it should be met with an open mind and a “can do” attitude. Take your time to set and visualize your goals while keeping in mind that your goals should be accessible. First steps should be small but sure. The best way to lose weight might not be the fastest way to lose weight and vice versa. Your body has its limits and its comfort zone. Switching to overdrive from a chilled stroll isn’t what the doctor ordered. There are some changes you have to make in your diet in order to lose weight. For example, skipping breakfast is a bad idea. A healthy, nutritious breakfast provides the energy to go about the daily routine and keeps the hunger down. By doing so, you won’t be so tempted to give into snacks. You don’t have to abandon snacks completely, just limit the quantities and consumption frequency. Also, the saltier the snack, the worse it is. A good way to diet is to replace the snacks in your fridge with low-calorie ones. Consuming excessive quantities of sugar is a health risk so if you reduce the sugar intake your body will thank you. Sweetened beverages or candy should be consumed in moderation, thus reducing the risk of heart disease, among others. Eat healthy. Easier said than done, of course, but rewarding if done well. The human body will function properly if given the correct amount of carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals. A diverse diet at well-kept hours will work wonders. Avoid saturated fatty acids and you will avoid high levels of bad cholesterol. Yes, there is good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL). The HDL works against LDL, directing it to the liver to be metabolized. High levels of LDL are a cause of clogged arteries and coronary diseases. Having three portions of fish like mackerel, tuna, salmon or trout every week provides the Omega 3 fatty unsaturated acids you need. Soybean or rapeseed (canola) oil, and walnuts are a source for Omega 3’s also. Try to avoid fried or deep fried meals as often as possible. Introduce yourself to vegetables, start adding them to your diet. You will still feel full but without the extra calories. Don’t supersize. Just don’t. Order just one item – fries, wings, strips, a burger but no more. Keeping a diet doesn’t necessary mean giving up on everything you liked to eat or drink. But keeping a balanced diet means being strict with your food so that you can still enjoy culinary pleasures, albeit not as often. It also means that when you do enjoy a burger or ice cream you won’t be piling calories. This takes planning but hey, what good thing doesn't? You don’t have to starve; you don’t even have to give up snacks. You just have to do it responsibly
